After a long series of serious films last couple of weeks, last night, I finished a light romantic one, "Sound of Colors"

หลังจากดูหนังซีเรียสๆ มานานช่วงหลายสัปดาห์ให้หลังมานี้ เมื่อคืนนี้ผมได้ดูหนังโรแมนติคเรื่องหนึ่งจบลงไป "Sound of Colors"

It is a Hong Kong film directed by Joe Ma in 2003, starring my favourite Tony Leung Chiu Wai and Miriam Yeung Chin Wah, co-starring my other favourite Chang Chen (Tony Leung and Chang Chen have met before in Wong Kar-Wai's Happy Together and 2046 and have just met recently in John Woo's Red Cliff).

มันเป็นหนังฮ่องกงปี 2003 กำกับโดยโจ หม่า นำแสดงโดยนักแสดงคนโปรดของผม เหลียงเฉาเหว่ย กับเหยียงชินหวา ร่วมด้วยอีกหนึ่งคนโปรด จางเจิ้น (เหลียงเฉาเหว่ยกับจางเจิ้นเคยเจอกันมาก่อนในหนังเรื่อง Happy Together กับ 2046 ของหว่องการ์ไว และเพิ่งเจอกันหมาดๆ ใน Red Cliff สามก๊ก ตอนโจโฉแตกทัพเรือของจอห์น วู)

Ming (Tony Leung) runs a desperate matchmaking business in Hong Kong. One day, he meets Hoi Yeuk (Miriam Yeung), a blind golden hearted girl, who her father takes her to Ming's company in order to find a guy for Hoi Yeuk to date on Christmas day. As their relationship starts to develop, after wake up one day, Ming finds himself in blindness (okay, I forgot to tell, there're a little bit of fantasy in this movie here and there. So, don't take it too serious, okay?). Definitely, no one else but Hoi Yeuk can best help him in this difficult time.

The other sub-story is about Jie (Chang Chen), a Taiwanese who has just been disappointed from his one-sided love. He goes to Shanghai and meets Dong (Jie Dong), a Chinese heartbroken girl because a man who she has been secretly in love with just got marry. Two brokenhearts meet, only to fullfill each others.

หมิง (เหลียงเฉาเหว่ย) เปิดบริษัทจัดหาคู่ที่จะเจ๊งมิเจ๊งแหล่ในฮ่องกง วันหนึ่ง เขาได้พบกับฮอยยุก (เหยียงชินหวา) สาวตาบอดจิตใจงามที่ถูกพ่อพาตัวมาที่บริษัทของหมิงเพื่อจะหาคู่เดตให้ลูกสาวเป็นของขวัญวันคริสต์มาส ขณะที่ความสัมพันธ์ของทั้งคู่เริ่มพัฒนา วันหนึ่งหมิงตื่นขึ้นมาแล้วก็พบว่าตัวเองตาบอด (เอาล่ะ ผมลืมบอกไปว่าหนังเรื่องนี้มันจะออกแฟนตาซีหน่อยๆ ด้วย ดังนั้น อย่าซีเรียสกับมันนัก โอเค้?) และแน่นอนว่า ไม่มีใครที่จะช่วยเหลือเขาในยามยากยามนี้ได้ดีไปกว่าฮอยยุกอีกแล้ว 

พล็อตรองของหนังกล่าวถึงเจี่ย (จางเจิ้น) หนุ่มไต้หวันที่เพิ่งผิดหวังจากการรักเขาข้างเดียวกับสาวร่วมออฟฟิศ เขาเดินทางไปเซี่ยงไฮ้และพบกับตง (เจียตง) สาวจีนอกหักเพราะหนุ่มที่เขาหลงรักเพิ่งจะแต่งงาน คนอกหักสองคนเลยได้มาเติมเต็มกันและกันในที่สุด

Sound of Colors based on the illustrate book in the same tiltle by Jimmy Lioa. Jimmy Lioa is a famous Taiwanese illustrator and storyteller. His most popular work supposes to be "A Chance of Sunshine" which became another Hong Kong movie "Turn Left, Turn Right" (2003), starring Takeshi Kaneshiro and Gigi Leung (has been shown in Thailand and easy to find in the rental shop now).

The attractivenesses of Jimmy Liao's books are telling the story by pictures with only a few words per page, the nice pictures with a little bit of lonely and blue feeling, and also the romantic love story or touching and thoughtful one.

เสน่ห์ของนิยายภาพของจิมมี่ เลี่ยวคือการเล่าเรื่องด้วยภาพ แต่มีตัวหนังสือให้อ่านเพียงน้อยนิด ภาพสวยน่ารักแต่เจืออารมณ์เหงาเศร้าเล็กน้อย และเนื้อเรื่องที่ถ้าไม่รักโรแมนติคก็ชวนคิดจับใจ

To be honest, Sound of Colors is not that very good in terms of story. I mean the story of the movie, not the original story of Jimmy Liao. Jimmy's book is very beautiful and this movie adapts it a lot. But if you want to be relax, let yourself go with the flow of its sweetness and just enjoy, this is not a bad chioce at all. Miriam is very good at acting as a blind. Tony seems so relax, maybe just to prepare himself for something like In The Mood For Love, 2046, Lust, Caution and Red Cliff later. Chang Chen has nothing to do much but as good as the screenplay required.

บอกตามตรง หนังเรื่องนี้ไม่ได้มีเนื้อเรื่องที่ดีมากเท่าไรนัก ผมไม่ได้กำลังพูดว่าเนื้อเรื่องของจิมมี่ เลี่ยวไม่ดี เพราะอันที่จริงแล้ว เนื้อเรื่องต้นฉบับของจิมมี่นั้นงดงามมาก แต่หนังดัดแปลงเสริมแต่งไปเยอะมากๆ ทีเดียว แต่ถ้าต้องการจะผ่อนคลาย ปล่อยตัวปล่อยใจไปกับเรื่องหวานๆ หนังเรื่องนี้เป็นตัวเลือกที่ไม่เลวเลยทีเดียว เหยียงชินหวาเล่นเป็นคนตาบอดได้ดีมากๆ เหลียงเฉาเหว่ยดูผ่อนคลายในเรื่องนี้ บางทีอาจเพราะเพื่อเตรียมตัวเองให้พร้อมกับบทซีเรียสๆ เป็นชุดที่จะตามมาไม่ว่าจะเป็น In The Mood For Love, 2046, Lust, Caution หรือ Red Cliff ส่วนจางเจิ้น บทของเขาในเรื่องนี้ไม่ได้เรียกร้องให้เขาได้เล่นอะไรมากมายนัก แต่เขาก็เล่นได้ดีเท่าที่บทมันเรียกร้อง

What I like: Miriam's acting as a blind. The star sticker on Tony's cheek. The angel (Wing Fan) borrows the walking stick from Hoi Yeuk in MTR station at the very first scence. The beautiful songs. The story of Chang Chen and Jie Dong in Shanghai. Tony in the not-that-serious version. The way Chang Chen eats chocolate.

What I don't like: All the beautiful illustrations of Jimmy Lioa are gone, left only two little scences. A bit too fantasy to me, personally. No climax kind of way, just keep telling story.

สิ่งที่ผมชอบ: การแสดงเป็นคนตาบอดของเหยียงชินหวา, มุกสติ๊กเกอร์ดาวติดแก้มของเหลียงเฉาเหว่ย, กามเทพจำแลงมายืมไม้เท้านำทางของนางเอกที่สถานีรถไฟใต้ดิน MTR ในฉากแรกๆ, เพลงประกอบเพราะมากๆ, เนื้อเรื่องในส่วนของจางเจิ้นกับเจียตงที่เซี่ยงไฮ้, เหลียงเฉาเหว่ยในบทสบายๆ, วิธีที่ตัวละครของจางเจิ้นกินช็อกโกแลต

สิ่งที่ผมไม่ชอบ: ภาพสวยๆ จากหนังสือของจิมมี่ เลี่ยวหาย.. ไปหมดเลย เหลือปรากฏถ่ายทอดมาอยู่แค่สองฉากเท่านั้น นี่คือจุดแข็งของหนังสือที่หนังทิ้งมันไปอย่างน่าเสียดาย, ความที่มันแฟนตาซีเกินไปนิดสำหรับผม, เนื้อเรื่องแบบไม่มีจุดไคลแม็กซ์เท่าไหร่ เหมือนจะเล่าเรื่องไปเรื่อยๆ

Sound of Colors was made by Jet Tone Picture, a film company of Wong Kar-Wai. Fortunately or unfortunatly, this film is not something in a way of his works at all. If you are looking for a feel-good romantic movie for laid back, this is your choice!

หนังเรื่องนี้สร้างโดยบริษัท Jet Tone Picture ของหว่องการ์ไว โชคดีหรือโชคร้ายไม่รู้ หนังเรื่องนี้ไม่มีอิทธิพลของหว่องการ์ไวอยู่เลย หากคุณกำลังมองหาหนังโรแมนติคฟีลกู๊ดสักเรื่องสำหรับชิลๆ หนังเรื่องนี้คือคำตอบของคุณครับ!

The soundtrack and sweet colorful MV here (including the clip from the movie). It's in Mandarin. I cannot find the original Cantonese as in the movie.
